Alright! My little Bubbha is 7 weeks old now (amazering) and I gave myself an 8 week window of strictly babe time, time solely for the purpose of enjoying and adjusting to having a bambino in my arms. That 8 weeks is almost almost up and so I’ve decided that I’m spending a tiny bit of time this week warming up the ole’ juices.
My goal for my return is one post per day with about 100 words attached to it. Fingers crossed!
Let’s start by examining this kitchen. It’s lovely but someone left a lovely ottoman in the middle of it. Because WTF? Why would you put an ottoman in a kitchen, unless it was upholstered with oil cloth and even then, why? The least functional piece of furniture in what needs to be the highest functioning room in your home. Hey, yes it looks great but come’on. This is not a thing that is going to happen. This is another fetch.
This is a little shot of our office and I have to say - one of the best decisions I made was choosing grass panels for the window coverings. The window faces NE, so we get pretty good sunshine in the mornings. But the grass panels make even the smallest bit of Mr. Sun warm up the entire room.
My office is my little home inside my home - my work, my play and my cats all come together in this room. I have space to stretch out, enjoy my coffee and my mood is without fail, boosted when I’m in here.
Truthfully - there are few better ways to start your day than with a headline like this…
Big, bright RED. Double layered too. Fancy-schmancy!

I have the perfect spot in my house for this! And the art deco would go famously with our style. Lurve it!
This is a post for Kim!
I’m semi-surprised at myself that I never posted this quick re-do project but better late than never! So this is the $30 Kijiji find that I turned into my rather “chic” kitchen table set up. When I bought this, the young mum who helped me load it in the car was like, really? You want this? For your house? Sure, no problem! No returnsies!
This table was so ugly when I bought it last year, I don’t even have a before photo of it. Seriously. But it was straight out of the 70’s - that brown wood, plus it had this itchy, awful like fibre-y upholstery that was orange and white and brown coloured, like kind of a plaid but worse. It was awful. And ITCHY to sit on.
So I spruced it up! For about $40 to boot. I splashed on some paint from LLD, in grey and white, and then bought an 8’ x 10’ painters canvas for like $10 to cover the seats and then bought this nifty patterned fabric through LLD from Tonic Living (amazing Canadian fabric store, seriously!). I borrowed Jesse’s staple gun to “re-upholster” it and stapled the ba-hooey out of it - I didn’t do a very neat and tidy job, let me tell you. The back gives away the fact that it’s a total hack job. BUT no one sees the back as they’re up against the wall.
We just recently painted the wall behind it this teal colour and love it - the splash of colour is crazy refreshing. Our kitchen floors are a grey linen tile, our kitchen cabinets are white (I redid them all using paint from LLD, btw!), our backsplash is white marble and our counter tops are butcher block, which is a nice cottage country feel. So the table and benches go great and the splash of colour on the wall adds a nice little something extra :)
So VOILA! Trust your vision!
My latest milk paint project is up on my other blog!
This, by far, has been the hardest part of planning the nursery. The rocking chair side table. Everything else was so smooth, so simple to put together (and I’ll be posting final nursery pics soon) but the side table was hard. I needed something tall and skinny, with a vintage feel, that wasn’t…
A rug. On top of a rug. On top of a beautiful hardwood floor. What to do, what to do. At least the rug has a natural texture, with the woven grass.
But really? Rug on rug action? And although I can only see the corners of those cream leather chairs, I’m not sure how I feel about them.
PS - that grey ottoman on the right side of the couch? $20 Ikea special! I’ve got one - I’m going to paint a pattern on it! (via Style at Home Facebook)
Oy - white sofas. Is the beauty of a white sofa worth having to wash it everyday? I have seen a lot of posts from people who give tips on how to keep your white sofa clean and they include cleaning your white sofa daily. Daily. I had a cream sofa for a while, but it was corduroy and that made it easier to clean, but still a b*tch. And now, living a life where I actually spend a lot of time in my home (and on my couch) I can not imagine trying to keep a white sofa clean. Seriously.
